China supports settlement of Palestinian issue through political negotiations

China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Zhang Jun said on the 3rd that China supports the settlement of the Palestinian issue through political negotiations. China appreciates the active mediation of the United Nations, Egypt, and other parties to push for a ceasefire agreement, calls on all parties concerned to maintain calm and restraint, is committed to rebuilding and accumulating mutual trust, and creates good conditions for restarting the Palestinian-Israeli peace talks.

    Zhang Jun said at the UN General Assembly ’s review of the question of Palestine and the situation in the Middle East on the same day that on the question of Palestine, relevant UN resolutions, the “two-state solution” and the “land for peace” principle are the bottom line of fairness and justice and must be firmly adhered to. China appreciates the assistance provided to the Palestine refugees by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. China has long supported the Agency's work politically and financially and is willing to continue to provide assistance to Palestine refugees and economic and social development.

    Zhang Jun said that the Palestinian issue is the root cause of the turmoil in the Middle East. At present, the Middle East peace process is at a standstill, the conflict surrounding the final status of Jerusalem is still ongoing, the humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territories is still grim, and settlement construction is continuing to advance. China is deeply concerned about this. At the same time, the entire Middle East region is not very peaceful. The situation in the Gulf continues to be tense. Hotspot issues are rapidly evolving. Political turbulence in many countries is difficult to resolve. The chaos in the region has provided opportunities for terrorist forces and caused serious spillover effects, which deserves high attention.

    Zhang Jun said that China is a sincere good friend, good partner, and good brother of the Palestinian people, and firmly supports the Palestinian people's just cause of restoring the legitimate rights of the nation. China is a firm supporter of Palestine-Israel peace. It is in the common interest of the international community to resolve the Palestinian issue in an all-round and just manner and realize the peaceful coexistence and common development of Palestine and Israel.

    Zhang Jun said that China supports the early realization of lasting peace and security in the Middle East. China stands for a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security architecture in the Middle East.

    Zhang Jun emphasized that China will continue to make unremitting efforts to safeguard fairness and justice, maintain regional peace and stability, and firmly become a builder of Middle East peace, a promoter of Middle East stability, and a contributor to Middle East development.
